Ducks Unlimited Conservation Centre

Built in 1996, the Ducks Unlimited Conservation Centre (DUCC) is a one-of-a-kind hub for wetland learning. Perched on the banks of the St. John River overlooking downtown Fredericton, N.B., the DUCC gives children and adults alike the opportunity to explore the wonder of wetlands through hands-on educational displays and programming.

As the centre approaches 20th year in operation, it’s in need of updates and maintenance to enrich the learning experience of each guest who visits. Here’s what we have planned.

Wetland activity room

Through the DUCC’s wetland activity room, we want to create an exciting place for each child that visits. To do that, we’re planning to design and install new engaging and interactive displays, and to build a new habitat for our resident turtle, George.

Education program

By designing refreshed and comprehensive elementary and secondary wetland education programming that focuses on curriculum-based hands-on activities, we’ll be able to connect students of all ages with wetland ecology and conservation. The DUCC will become an education hub offering a truly unique educational experience. This includes enhancing our indoor classroom and learning facility

Outdoor classroom enhancement

We’re planning to restore a small wetland and expand the trail system near the outdoor classroom at the DUCC. By doing this, we’re making sure students can get their hands dirty dipping for critters and exploring a true wetland ecosystem on-site at the centre.
