Education
Imagine a place where learning comes to life. A place where students of all ages can make their own discoveries.
It’s time to reacquaint kids with the wonders of nature. To help them explore a local wetland where they can apply what they’ve learned in their classrooms and perhaps even be inspired to take on their own conservation projects.
Given the chance, kids can be powerful changemakers for the environment and Ducks Unlimited Canada’s education programs are shaping conservation leaders for today and tomorrow.
How we’re inspiring the next generation
Once young people get outside and inspired by nature, they come to understand and appreciate the role conservation plays. We offer a variety of award-winning education programs and work with partners to engage youth and empower them to make a difference in their own communities.
Wetland Heroes
When young people have passion and purpose, they take action. The Wetland Heroes program recognizes motivated young people who are supporting wetland conservation through their own projects in their communities.We recognize and celebrate thousands of Wetland Heroes across the country.
Wetland Centres of Excellence
Wetland Centres of Excellence combine learning and leadership. These partner schools introduce students to conservation by creating long-term projects using a local wetland. We are working to establish an integrated network of Wetland Centres of Excellence across the country. We nurture students to become youth ambassadors so they can share their experiences at political and community events.
Education programming
If you’ve ever seen kids “critter dipping,” you know they’re having fun. Even better, they’re learning. DUC education programs provide a wide variety of resources–including field trips to local wetlands—that get students excited and interested in conservation. We’ve reached more than one million students through our programming… and we’re just getting started. We are constantly seeking new ways to introduce new students to wetland conservation through education programs, partnerships, interpretive centres, websites and social media.

Higher learning and leadership
Young scientists, industry professionals and community officials all have a stake in the future of conservation. Educational opportunities with DUC encourage them to learn more about wetlands and waterfowl. Graduate fellowships, workshops and other resources are equipping them with the tools and knowledge they need to become conservation leaders in their fields. That’s why deliver wetland conservation workshops and resources to industry groups and other interested parties. We support high-performing graduate students and their research efforts and, whenever possible, employ students to help deliver DUC research projects.
Hunter mentorship
DUC was founded in 1938 by conservation-minded waterfowl hunters. Sharing this heritage with others is important. Our mentorship program introduces novice hunters to waterfowling traditions through hands-on learning and organized outings. It instills strong conservation ethics. It leads to a lifetime appreciation and respect for waterfowl and wildlife. We engage new hunters through our Waterfowling Heritage Education Program. We also host community events to increase public awareness about waterfowling and the role hunters play in conservation. Learn more at waterfowling.com.
