Maximizing the power of Natural Green Infrastructure
DUC works with landowners to enhance the power of natural green infrastructure (NGI) which include wetlands, grasslands and forests by protecting existing areas and restoring others. The impact of this work is significant. When DUC restores a wetland that was previously drained, its functionality returns and with it, so do the ecological benefits such as such as flood and drought mitigation, and increased biodiversity. The scope and scale of DUC’s work to restore and retain Alberta’s natural green infrastructure on the landscape is significant.
